Within the scope of the Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SKUP) Phase II Project, the Third Workshop on Disaster-Resilient Transport Systems was held on 23 May 2025. The event focused on how Istanbul’s transport system can be made more resilient to disasters such as earthquakes and floods. Presentations on risk and vulnerability analyses were shared, and solution proposals were developed through resilience-focused workshops.

The workshop, held at Dedeman Gayrettepe in Istanbul, centered on strengthening the resilience of the city’s urban transport system against natural disasters, particularly earthquakes and floods.

In the first part of the event, the results of the Risk and Vulnerability Analysis for potential disaster scenarios affecting Istanbul were presented. This was followed by a detailed workshop session where stakeholders exchanged views on identifying areas that require reinforcement and developing practical solutions.

In the second half of the workshop, two thematic sessions were held. The first focused on measures to enhance Istanbul’s earthquake resilience, while the second addressed steps to be taken within the transport system to mitigate flood risks caused by climate change. Participants contributed ideas on how to make the system more adaptable under different scenarios.

This workshop was part of the ongoing disaster-preparedness event series launched in January and represented another significant step toward building a sustainable and disaster-resilient transport system for Istanbul.
