Within the scope of the Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SKUP) Phase II Project, the Second Workshop on Disaster-Resilient Transport Systems was held on 21 May 2025. The workshop focused on strengthening the resilience of the urban transport system against extraordinary circumstances such as pandemics. Drawing on the experiences of the COVID-19 period, discussions were held with stakeholders on how to enhance preparedness capacity in transport.

The workshop comprehensively addressed the risks that Istanbul’s transport system may face in extraordinary situations like pandemics, the current level of preparedness for these risks, and the overall resilience of the system.

Based on the measures taken and lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic in Istanbul, stakeholders explored strategies to ensure the sustainability and continuity of transport. With broad participation from local government representatives, health institutions, academia, and civil society organizations, the event evaluated the performance of public transport systems during the pandemic, the lessons learned, and possible solutions.

In addition to project presentations, the program included panel discussions, workshops, and evaluation forums. Participants identified the structural and managerial measures necessary to ensure uninterrupted transport services during crises. The steps required to build an inclusive, resilient, and prepared transport system for Istanbul were once again underlined.
