As part of the Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SKUP) Phase II – Implementation Plan Project, the Istanbul 2040 Mobility Scenarios Workshop was held on 14 January to shape the city’s 2040 transport vision. The workshop brought together a wide range of stakeholders from various sectors, providing an important platform to help define the future of mobility in Istanbul.

The Future Vision Panel, moderated by journalist Ayça Ceylan, featured Prof. Dr. Haluk Gerçek, a transport expert, and Alphan Manas, a technology entrepreneur. The panel addressed critical topics such as innovation, urban planning, and the future of transport.

Throughout the workshop, alternative scenarios prepared for Istanbul’s 2040 mobility plan were thoroughly evaluated. Working groups analyzed innovative and sustainability-oriented scenarios based on specific criteria.

The groups assessed the scenarios in terms of feasibility, long-term impacts, and sustainability. Discussions revolved around themes such as transport infrastructure, social accessibility, eco-friendly technologies, and economic transformation. The strengths and weaknesses of each approach were examined, bringing together diverse perspectives. At the end of the sessions, the goal was set to combine the strong aspects of all scenarios to develop a more holistic and inclusive mobility plan for Istanbul.
