As part of the Istanbul Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SKUP) Phase II – Implementation Plan Project, the Workshop on Disaster-Resilient Transport Systems was held on 29 January 2025.
The workshop opened with remarks from Seda Özdemir, Deputy Head of IMM Transport Planning Department, who emphasized that disaster-resilient transport is not only about keeping roads open but also about building a safe and sustainable system for everyone.
This was followed by a presentation from Otar Nemsadze and Ersoy Pehlivan of Rupprecht Consult on the SKUP Phase II Resilience Pilot Project in Istanbul. Participants exchanged ideas on how to make the city’s transport infrastructure safer against disasters. The workshop was facilitated by Sara Abu Henedy (Rupprecht Consult).
During the sessions, economic, environmental, social, and technological factors were assessed to strengthen the resilience of the transport system against disasters such as earthquakes and floods. Strategies and policy recommendations were discussed with the aim of enhancing disaster response capacity.
